The Indianapolis Colts defense got off to an impressive start in the first half against the Houston Texans.

The theme for the Indianapolis Colts defense this year has been forced turnovers. They entered Week 13 with a league-leading 27 takeaways and a +12 turnover differential.

In the first half of the Week 13 matchup against the Houston Texans, the Indianapolis defense wasted no time doing what they’ve been doing all year, picking up two turnovers in the first half.

Kenny Moore was the catalyst for both turnovers and he got things started on the very first play from scrimmage when he jumped a route and intercepted a pass, completed with an impressive toe drag.

One series later, Moore utilized “the punch” to dislodge a ball from the arms of a Houston receiver and Xavier Rhodes was there to quickly recover the fumble.

The interception led to a Jonathan Taylor touchdown, which makes this his 10th straight game with a rushing touchdown. Unfortunately, the Colts were unable to get points out of the second turnover after Michael Badgley missed a 35-yard field goal.

Colts offense struggles to capitalize on turnovers

Indianapolis does lead 14-0 at the half, but the offense didn’t play as cleanly as the defense did. They were 3-7 on third downs and had three consecutive drives that ended in a missed field goal and two punts.

They were able to finish the half strong with an 11-play, 54-yard drive that ended in a Wentz touchdown pass to Ashton Dulin.

The other positive from the offensive side of the ball is that Taylor has 19 first-half carries for 67 yards. A number that should appease the fans and Colts’ players, that have been wanting to run the ball more.

Indianapolis should be able to put Houston away early, but the offense will have to play far more efficiently in the second half to do so.
