3 silver linings from the Colts’ loss to the Buccaneers
2. Silver linings for Colts in Bucs loss: Carson Wentz can get the job done if Taylor is contained
This one may receive some pushback, as this was the game plan and Indianapolis didn’t get the job done. You also have to consider that the boxscore wasn’t friendly to Wentz, as he finished with two interceptions and one fumble. Even with the turnovers, Wentz delivered a promising performance in the loss.
When Indianapolis got the ball back with 10 minutes left in the game down 31-24, Taylor only had eight rushes for 25 yards. Despite the leading MVP candidate being limited, the Colts still had the chance to go down and tie the game in a high-scoring matchup with the No. 1 offense in the NFL. That was because of the performance of Carson Wentz.
Wentz consistently found receivers, moving the offense down the field and showcasing his dual-threat ability with big scrambles and beautiful throws.
Wentz finished the game completing 27-of-44 passes for 306 yards and three touchdowns. With the exception of about three plays, that’s a really good game.
Truthfully, it really was just one play that sullied the day for Wentz, and that was his first interception. The sack strip was on Eric Fisher and the second interception was just a last-second heave to try and tie the game. Even on the first interception, many feel the Buccaneers got away with pass interference.
Looking beyond the boxscore and at the game film, it’s evident Wentz had a good game. Fans can debate whether or not Wentz should have been relied upon that much, but they should be happy with what he delivered when relied upon.
