Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor continues to gain mainstream praise.
Slowly but surely, the NFL world is realizing what Indianapolis Colts fans have been screaming for the past season and a half: Jonathan Taylor is special. Not just special, but one of the best players in the NFL.
While Colts fans came to this conclusion after seeing Taylor dominate weekly, it took a 204-yard, five-touchdown performance against the top-ranked defense for the rest of the world to get the memo. Better late than never, right?
Despite being late, the world has arrived to the Jonathan Taylor party, and they can’t stop buzzing. His performance from this past Sunday is being relived everywhere you look, and many are beginning to ask, is Taylor’s this year’s MVP?
That was the conversation on NFL Network’s program Good Morning Football, and host Kay Adams laid out the perfect argument for Taylor’s MVP case.
Colts RB Jonathan Taylor has a real chance to be MVP
Voters for the award usually have a quarterback bias— nine of the last 10 MVP winners have been quarterbacks. The last non-quarterback to win the award was Adrian Peterson in 2012.
As Adams highlights, there isn’t a quarterback running away with the award this season as they have in years past. Meanwhile, Taylor has been consistently dominant and has been the engine to the Colts’ offense. For that reason, he has a real shot at the award (and Derrick Henry’s absence can’t hurt, either).
The next six weeks will determine whether Taylor can bring an MVP to Indianapolis or not. The Colts are 6-5, just outside of the playoffs, and have some extremely tough games left. If they can upset teams like they did the Bills, and force their way into the postseason on the legs of Taylor, it will be hard to deny that he is the rightful MVP.
He will have a great chance to add to his campaign this Sunday, as the Colts host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and their No. 1 ranked rushing defense.
