The Indianapolis Colts seemingly have a future superstar at the wide receiver position in Michael Pittman Jr.

The 2020 second-rounder looks more and more like a true No. 1 as the weeks go by, and his talents were on full display in the Colts’ Week 7 win over the 49ers when he made an insane touchdown grab late in the fourth quarter.

Behind Pittman, though, the Colts are incredibly thin at wide receiver.

Given how well Carson Wentz has performed through seven games, it would be insane if Indy went the rest of the year without upgrading the position, even if it’s just a rental for the remainder of the season.

Well, it just so happens that one of Wentz’s former targets from his time in Philadelphia is seeking a trade.

On Friday, it was reported that the Rams and DeSean Jackson have mutually agreed to find a trade partner.

Should the Colts reunite Carson Wentz with DeSean Jackson?

Wentz doesn’t have a ton of history with Jackson — the 34-year-old played in just eight games in 2019 and 2020 — but something is better than nothing, right? You bet, and Jackson would bring a desperately-needed deep threat to Indy’s offense.

If we’ve learned anything about Wentz this season, it’s that he loves to take risks downfield. Unfortunately for the Colts’ starter, Pittman is really the only reliable threat in that regard.

We saw Wentz take a deep shot to Ashton Dulin against San Francisco. It was a ball Dulin probably should’ve reeled in. However, the 24-year-old’s inexperience (and lack of jump ball skills) came to light and the pass fell incomplete.

See what we’re saying?

Parris Campbell is a long shot to return this season with a foot injury. It’s anyone’s guess as to whether TY Hilton, who’s questionable for Sunday with a quad issue, stays upright for the remainder of the campaign.

Behind them, it starts getting a little dicey. Dulin, as we just mentioned, is still extremely raw. The same can be said for seventh-rounder Mike Strachan, who’s played seven offensive snaps over the last four games.

Right now, Pittman and Zach Pascal are the only sure things on the roster. That’s not up for debate. For anyone whining about Hilton, we need to see him healthy for a multi-game stretch before we can lump him into that category.

Nobody’s saying Jackson would solve the Colts’ WR conundrum. He a 34-year-old with an extensive injury history who’s asked off his first-place, hometown team for…whatever reason. He’s very much at the tail-end of his career.

However, Jackson’s proven in very limited opportunities with the Rams that he still has speed to burn. The fact that he has a history with Wentz and would take some attention away from Pittman proves that Chris Ballard should at least get Rams general manager Les Snead on the phone.
