Colts: 3 sneaky matchups to watch out for vs Texans
By Josie Rohach
1. Rookie QB Davis Mills
In a shocking turn of events for a Houston quarterback room straight out of a nightmare, rookie Davis Mills is now one of the better rookie QBs in the league. Mills had three touchdown passes and 312 yards versus a solid New England defense last week, and he is riding that hot streak right into this game.
One of the tough parts about defending Mills is that he doesn’t have a favorite target. Three different receivers scored on his passes last week, which included 37- and 67-yard bombs. In total, he involved seven different receivers throughout the game. Clearly he has the arm strength and accuracy to sling it down the field for the deep ball, he’s agile enough to make plays out of the pocket, and he is willing to hit anyone with the ball.
Nobody expected Mills to play this season, let alone play as well as he did last week. His improvement could prove to be just a fluke rather than a dramatic turn for the better, but it’s up to Indianapolis to force him back into his earlier state of play on Sunday despite battling their own depleted secondary.
