1. Carson Wentz
If you were looking for a near-perfect outing from Carson Wentz (again, on two barely-mended ankles), then you don’t lack for confidence, and I’d recommend you set your expectations a little lower.
Whatever you had pegged for Wentz on Sunday, though, with Brett Hundley the only security blanket behind him after Jacob Eason was taken off the active depth chart, the offseason import likely exceeded everything you expected of him.
Repeatedly refusing to hear a bell when faced with dire straits, Wentz escaped Miami’s swarming defense without a single interception, only taking two sacks (again, impressive considering his reported lack of mobility). He finished 24-of-32 for 224 yards and a pair of touchdowns, polishing off an extremely clean game with that remarkable throw to Doyle under duress (and the weight of a possible four-week failure streak).
Wentz’s outing fell somewhere between game management and stardom, but with the weapons he’s been equipped with on both sides of the ball, it was more than enough to win a season-saving road game. There’s no runaway favorite in this division. All the Colts need to do is comfortably manage the task in front of them week in and week out. Wentz, who many thought wouldn’t even be here 10 days ago, powered a comfortable victory.
It’s time to stop thinking about that draft pick bouncing back to Philadelphia, Colts fans.
Colts: Jacob Eason officially losing backup job to Brett Hundley hurts Indy’s future
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Jacob Eason lost his backup job to Brett Hundley. A bad look for the front office and not good for the team's future.
