Colts: 3 most likely trade destinations for Marlon Mack after recent rumors
By Jerry Trotta
2. Atlanta Falcons
The Falcons opted against signing a top-tier running back in free agency and they’re paying the price in the early goings. Through three games, Atlanta ranks 28th in rushing yards per game (82.7), checking in just ahead of the Jets.
How desperate are they to inject a spark into their rushing attack? Well, they’ve tried to get former return specialist Cordarrelle Patterson more carries. That plan hasn’t panned out, as Patterson has 14 carries for 31 yards in the last two weeks.
Colts’ Marlon Mack could flourish as the Falcons’ starting RB.
Of course, the Falcons signed Mike Davis to be their starter after he impressed as Carolina’s de facto starter following Christian McCaffrey’s injury last year. Unfortunately for Atlanta, Davis has been unable to replicate that success.
The seven-year pro is averaging just 3.8 yards per carry this season. He’s clearly better suited catching passes out of the backfield, and the 36-year-old Matt Ryan is feeling the effects of not having the support of a running game.
We’re not saying Mack could fix all of the Falcons’ problems. But he’s definitely better than their current RB options. Don’t rule out Atlanta, which just picked up their first win, as a potential suitor for the disgruntled Colts star.
