1. Kawann Short

The 32-year old defensive tackle was a dominant presence in the middle of the Panthers’ defense for the better part of a decade, but the past two years have been largely riddled with injuries, which is why Carolina decided to let him go. Short carried a monster contract that wasn’t worth keeping him around on injured reserve any longer.

The Colts lost Denico Autry in free agency and filled that void by drafting a couple of defensive linemen, but Short is a developed player with a dominant past. The market for an aging defensive tackle is small, but adding another depth signing for a championship run could be in the books. Having more guys in the trenches to rotate isn’t a bad thing, especially if Indy can get a player like Short on the cheap.

DeForest Buckner can’t lead the defense all by himself. He’ll need some help on the interior alongside Grover Stewart. And not to be pessimistic, but the defensive line is one injury away from being in the danger zone.

Let’s get some more insurance here if the price is right.
