Colts: Nick Foles’ latest comments feel like a trade to Indy is coming
The Indianapolis Colts are down bad. Carson Wentz will officially undergo foot surgery and miss anywhere between 5-12 weeks, which means the team will be without a quarterback who possesses NFL experience until then.
Unless…
Head coach Frank Reich wants to reunite with another one of his former quarterbacks! Tell us, Colts fans, how badly do you want a Nick Foles-Carson Wentz locker room? Those headlines shouldn’t be annoying at all, right? They definitely won’t affect Wentz’s ego either.
Foles commenting on the possibility of a trade surely doesn’t help the Colts in the most recent news cycle, that’s for sure.
Nick Foles already addressing Colts trade rumors makes it seem like something’s afoot.
You know what else Foles said?!
“He understands me as a player. He understands me as a person. You all watched the 2017 season and the playoffs, where he changed the offense and built it around me, and we saw what happened.”
Umm, does this man want out of Chicago … ASAP? The Bears drafting Justin Fields certainly suggests a trade could be on the table, especially with the presence of Andy Dalton. Matt Nagy does not need all of those QBs.
And when you look at the Colts’ situation — only Jacob Eason and Sam Ehlinger, both of whom have never taken an NFL snap, as well as Brett Hundley are behind Wentz — Reich and Co. can’t afford to waste much time. They have a grueling schedule to begin the season and likely won’t have their starter (or any starter) for games against the Seahawks, Rams, Titans, Dolphins and Ravens if they keep things as is.
Spoiler alert: it seems they’re going to keep the status quo with hopes of Wentz making an expedited return. We’re really not sure that’s the right course of action considering the former No. 2 overall pick’s injury history and the fact you can hardly ever bank on a mobile quarterback to breeze through rehab after getting a foot operation to repair a broken bone.
We call that wishful thinking and optimistic to a fault. Nonetheless, hopefully Chris Ballard is hanging out on social media and seeing these clips/comments from Foles. If he doesn’t feel comfortable with the team’s situation over the next few weeks, then it’s obvious who he should try and trade for to salvage some wins at the onset of the year.
