Unfortunately for Indianapolis Colts fans, they’ll be tied to the Philadelphia Eagles in some way over the next few years following the Carson Wentz trade.

Like it or not, there will be constant comparisons of Wentz between his time in Philly and Indy and there will be no escaping it, especially during the 2021 season. He’s going to need to get off to a fast start to silence his awful 2020 campaign.

Another layer of this? Eagles fans will be watching him like a hawk. They’ll be rooting for him to fail, which means they’ll be rooting for the Colts to fail.

It’s a miserable fan base that stews in negativity and couldn’t be more different than how Colts supporters conduct themselves.

Sadly, we got another taste of Eagles fans’ wrath on July 4 when they decided to trash a tweet from the Colts’ official Twitter account.

Eagles fans are still very salty about Colts QB Carson Wentz’s “failures.”

Go see the mentions for yourself. Endless Philly fans talking about Wentz’s turnovers and failure to get the ball in the end zone as well as bragging about how they’re going to get a first-round pick from the Colts.

Spoiler alert! Wentz’s turnovers will likely decrease and his touchdowns will see a spike after he’s reunited with the man largely responsible for the Eagles’ Super Bowl run in 2017: head coach Frank Reich. Also … last time we checked, Colts fans will be totally OK surrendering a first-round pick in 2022 (it’s a conditional second-rounder that could turn into a first assuming Wentz hits certain benchmarks) if their starting QB is helping them win. Wasn’t that the whole point of the trade?

We’d rather not get too sucked into Philly’s negativity, but it’ll certainly be fun to track their disdain throughout 2021 when Wentz is enduring a career renaissance as the Eagles realize all they did was shoot themselves in the foot with their former No. 2 overall pick.

Did they forget it was Wentz who carried them in 2018 and 2019, too? In 2018 he was having a really good campaign before he got injured and the team was held back by a regressing defense and nonexistent running game. They were all over the place in 2019 as well, with injuries decimating the roster and an eroding offense that was clearly the result of Reich’s departure.

Oh well, maybe Eagles fans will realize early on in the 2021 campaign that it was their own organization holding them back and not Wentz, who was required to do far too much with far too little.
