The Indianapolis Colts have one of the most talented rosters in the league, so why do they keep getting disrespected in offseason lists?

Not only have standouts like Darius Leonard, Jonathan Taylor and DeForest Buckner been overlooked in positional rankings, but the Colts are being sorely glossed over as a potential contender to represent the AFC this upcoming season.

We’re not sure what the Colts did to be shunned so consistently, but it happened yet again this week. In unsurprising fashion, Pro Football Focus was behind the latest shambolic list, as they somehow believe Indianapolis only has the 14th-best roster in the NFL.

Any human with a functional brain would tell you this ranking is laughable and doesn’t reflect the Colts’ overall talent. It appears former pass rusher Robert Mathis felt the need to comment on it though, because SOMEBODY has to say something.

Robert Mathis flamed PFF for the Colts’ roster ranking.

Mathis makes an excellent point by implying that the Cowboys, Vikings and Broncos have no business making up the 8-10 spots. While Dallas’ offense has record-setting potential, their defense was historically bad last year and didn’t improve much this offseason.

As for the Vikings, their roster is incredibly top heavy and their ceiling will ultimately be hindered by their quarterback play. The same can be said for the Broncos (even more so), though their defense has the potential to be one of the best in the league.

Therein lies the problem. The Colts have the potential to have both a top 10 (if not higher) offense and defense next season. In any event, we’re also not entirely sure how Washington managed to fall at No. 12. Outside of their defensive line, what positional group scares you?

As for the 49ers (No. 11), their offense can be the best in the NFL with their elite running game,  dominant offensive line and dynamic receiving corps. However, their defense took a colossal step backwards last year and they didn’t do much this offseason to fix the group’s weaknesses. Jimmy Garoppolo is also a bit of a problem.

Nobody’s asking for the Colts to catapult into the top five, and any fans who feel that way are living in a fantasy land, but ranking somewhere in the 8-11 range? That seems fair.

After all, PFF implying that Indianapolis has a roster that ranks near the bottom half of the league is as embarrassing as it gets and further proves that their analytical approach to analyzing talent is flawed and shouldn’t bother Colts fans.

We probably took the words right out of Mathis’ mouth, but it was awesome to see the former star edge rusher blast this nightmarish list. Perhaps fans can show their appreciation when he’s inducted into the Colts’ Ring of Honor on Nov. 28 at Lucas Oil Stadium.
