1. Week 3 at Tennessee

That’s right, Colts fans. Carson Wentz’s first chance to prove he’s still an elite quarterback will come in Week 3 on the road in Tennessee.

After all, a win and strong performance form Wentz in that game could really set the tone in the division for the rest of the season. It would also give Indy the head-to-head (and mental) advantage over Tennessee before the teams lock horns again at Lucas Oil Stadium in Week 8.

Nevertheless, the real opportunity for Wentz in Week 3 lies in the fact that the Titans’ pass defense couldn’t stop a nosebleed last season. For context, they ranked 29th in passing yards allowed per game with 277.4. When you consider Wentz managed a career-low 218.3 yards per game last year, he simply has to take advantage of this matchup.

Carson Wentz needs to feast against the Titans in Week 3.

Though the Titans bolstered their front seven this offseason with free agent acquisitions like Denico Autry and Bud Dupree, they lost key members of their secondary in cornerbacks Adoree Jackson, who signed with the Giants, and Malcolm Butler, who was released.

For those wondering, no, the signings of Janoris Jenkins and Kevin Johnson — on top of the risky selection of CB Caleb Farley, who’s had multiple back surgeries — in the first round of the 2021 Draft, don’t worry us. If that’s the case, we can only imagine how Wentz feels about those moves.

It might be harsh to peg a divisional matchup as a prime one for Wentz to reclaim his moxie. However, a promising showing under center in a winning effort could help him win over countless fans who were skeptical of the Colts’ decision to trade for him in the first place.
