The Indianapolis Colts are presently in pursuit of their fourth starting quarterback in as many seasons, and the expectation is that they will take to the trade market to find their man.

While fans want nothing more than for the search to be over, GM Chris Ballard has stressed on numerous occasions that he’s not going to orchestrate a trade for the sake of doing so because teams love to feed on desperation and Indy will not be duped into making any outlandish deals.

When it comes to the Colts’ interest in Carson Wentz, which was confirmed by insiders over the weekend, reports indicate that the Eagles are being irrational with their evaluation of the former No. 2 overall pick, who was objectively one of the worst quarterbacks in the league this past year.

Well, according to the latest buzz, the Colts are reportedly seeking supplementary compensation — including extra draft picks or players — to help meet Philadelphia’s absurd asking price.

As expected, the Colts don’t plan on budging in negotiations with the Eagles for quarterback Carson Wentz.

Here’s what Mike Kaye of NJ.com had to say about the Colts’ latest chess move.

"“The Indianapolis Colts have asked for additional compensation — a player, players or picks — along with Wentz in order to get close to the Eagles’ demands, according to a third person with knowledge of negotiations, who also was granted anonymity. That person said another undisclosed Eagles player has been brought up in discussions.”"

Ballard deserves massive credit for sticking to his guns here. The 51-year-old GM was never going to adhere to the Eagles’ demands, which is reportedly headlined by two first-round draft picks or a package that aligns with what the Lions received in return from the Rams for Matthew Stafford.

With that in mind, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Wentz’s trade market has cooled down over the last couple of days. If he was worth THAT much, why wouldn’t the Eagles just keep him? Because he’s clearly not (they know it) and they’re holding out hope that one team is stupid and desperate enough to meet their asking price.

Given that Philly seems hell-bent on unloading Wentz as soon as possible, they’ll have to either come a bit back down to earth or be willing to include more players or draft compensation to help level the playing field as far as assets are concerned.

Until that happens, it sounds like the Colts are more than content with holding their ground and waiting for another QB to become available.
