The Colts have been linked as a trade destination for Matthew Stafford.

Being that there are only two (Prescott and Watson) realistic franchise-caliber options available for the Colts, fans shouldn’t rule out the possibility of them turning to another veteran to bide them more time to find their long-term solution.

If Lions star Matthew Stafford doesn’t fit that bill, then nobody does. At 32 years old (he’ll turn 33 next month), he’s still incredibly mobile and offers more in terms of arm strength, accuracy and poise under pressure than what Rivers provided this past season.

Stafford might not have the playoff experience you would want in a veteran — he’s appeared in three such games over his career– but anybody who’s watched him over the years knows he’s the ultimate competitor and does whatever it takes to win.

At this stage of his career, the 2014 Pro Bowler clearly doesn’t fit into the Lions’ rebuild plans and they could expedite that project by trading him for a bounty of draft picks. If you couldn’t tell, we see zero downside in acquiring Stafford, and because of the lack of competing market in terms of teams who might be looking for a veteran quarterback, he lands at No. 1 on this list.
