Darius Leonard sums up Colts’ playoff expectations with perfect quote
By Jerry Trotta
Colts fans will love this underdog quote from linebacker Darius Leonard.
The Indianapolis Colts will compete in their first playoff matchup since 2018, when they were expectedly trounced by the Kansas City Chiefs in the divisional round. Unfortunately for them, this matchup won’t be much easier as they’re set to take on the Buffalo Bills, who might be the only team (given their recent form) fans didn’t want them to draw on wild card weekend.
However, if there’s a silver lining to be had here for Indy, it lies in the fact that all the pressure will be on Buffalo to deliver a complete performance after they nabbed the No. 2 seed following their scalding hot finish to the regular season — they closed on a six-game winning streak and went 9-1 over their last 10 contests dating back to Week 7.
Clearly aware that the Colts should enter this showdown with a nothing-to-lose mindset, linebacker Darius Leonard offered up an awesome underdog quote during his latest media session that’s bound to resonate with the fan base.
"“I feel like for me there’s never no pressure,” Leonard told reporters on Wednesday. “Like coach said, when you’re the 7 seed, everybody expects you to fail. That’s the mindset. Everybody’s sharing that: you failed.“Crazy that everybody said that the Bills was going to win. Everybody’s counting us out, so we just go in there and just be us. We don’t have to do nothing more, we don’t have to do nothing less. Just be us, control what we can control and that is playing great fundamental football and hopefully we can come out with a victory.“But pressure? Nah. We don’t have any pressure on us.”"
Spoken like a true team captain.
If one of the best defenders in all of football is playing loose on Saturday, Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll should be looking over his shoulder. This Colts defense is filled with playmakers. Those guys playing relaxed will only help them execute.
Fresh off being named AFC Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this season after he compiled 10 tackles (eight solo), two passes defended, and a strip sack against Jacksonville, Leonard appears to have all the motivation he needs as he attempts to lead the Colts to their first playoff win in three years.
