Colts: Will Fuller suspension comes at perfect time for Indy
By Adam Weinrib
The Colts face the Texans twice over the next few weeks, and Houston will NOT have Will Fuller.
The Indianapolis Colts held up far better in November than some (OK, than we) theorized they would.
A 3-2 record is nothing to sneeze at with Tennessee on the slate twice, surrounded by the Packers, Lions and Ravens — especially with their final matchup of the month marred by a stunning number of starters sent to the COVID-19 list.
As Indy rounds the corner into playoff contention, it seems like they’ve finally been hit with their first lucky schedule break?
For two of the next three weeks, the Colts will face off with the Houston Texans, a team that once sat at 2-7 but has won two straight, buoyed by a victory over the Patriots into a dominant Thanksgiving performance. But that Texans team will be missing its most valuable non-Deshaun Watson cog on offense, with Will Fuller receiving a six-game performance enhancing substance suspension late Monday night.
That loud exhale you hear is coming from the mouth of Rock Ya-Sin.
Not only will the loss of Fuller deprive the Texans of their greatest downfield threat for the remaining two matchups, but Indy may never see Fuller in-division again. This six-game suspension will take him into free agency; the final game of the six will likely be served somewhere else entirely.
When Colts fans heard that the Packers hadn’t pulled the trigger on a Fuller deal at the trade deadline, they were likely bummed out. But now? Both teams are breathing a knowing sigh of relief.
Sure, as a juiced-up football team that believes in the men in its locker room, you always want to take your opponent’s best shot.
But any bit of good karma feels extra good when half the league is jonesing for one of seven playoff spots, all seemingly holding the exact same record going into the season’s final weeks.
This is a massive advantage no Colts fan expected. And right now, we’re going to enjoy it.
