Colts: Rodrigo Blankenship’s friendship with Ric Flair needs an explanation

Colts rookie kicker Rodrigo Blankenship is apparently friends with wrestling legend Ric Flair and we need ANSWERS, people!
If he’s not the Most Interesting Man in the World, Colts kicker Rodrigo Blankenship is at least the most interesting fellow in Indianapolis.
Of course, one year ago, he was the most interesting man in Athens, GA, a title he held several years running before moving on to the bright lights, big city atmosphere of the direct middle of Indiana.
Star power has always followed the bespectacled Blankenship throughout his career; he’s garnered a reputation for clutch kicks and quirkiness, stealing the show over and over again, like the time he regaled us with his pre-roster deadline hijinks of…a quiet night building Legos.
The kicker was at it again this week, though, casually dropping a bomb on the team’s beat writers that he’s buddies with wrestling legend Ric Flair. Yeah, not a big deal, just went to his 70th birthday last year, like one does.

“How’d you meet 70-year-old wrestler Ric Flair?”
“Were any other college students at Mr. Flair’s 70th birthday party?”
“More important, didn’t Flair suffer from plenty of serious rumored health issues over the past several years? How hard did y’all go at his party?! WOO!”
According to Blankenship, the two connected at the 70th b-day event, and have since become close enough that Flair has agreed to help the kicker market his own personalized merchandise.

And in this modern branding landscape, isn’t that the best kind of friendship?!
If we’ve seen a more unconventional pair than Flair and Blankenship, we must be forgetting it.
