Mike Vrabel probably wishes he never brought up past trash talk on Philip Rivers

The Colts crushed the Titans on Thursday night football. Sorry, Mike Vrabel.

Despite a fast start from the Tennessee Titans, the Indianapolis Colts held strong in all three facets of the game and dominated en route to a 34-17 victory on Thursday Night Football to tighten the race in the AFC South.

Heading into this one, though we know both coaches have the utmost respect for one another and their players, Titans boss Mike Vrabel reminisced on some trash talked he directed at Philip Rivers back in the day when he was with the Patriots and the QB was with the Chargers.

We think he wants to take that back though, because Rivers shredded the Titans defense, recording 308 yards and a touchdown on 29-of-39 passing. Where was that D, Mike?

Ya gotta admit, that’s some great trash talk, especially since a lot of Chargers fans at the time were not happy with the decision to let Drew Brees to go the Saints. And though Rivers has been a Hall-of-Fame-esque QB in his own right, he’s no Brees, and everybody knows that.

But the 17-year veteran still has some left in the tank, and Brees or not, he made sure to remind Vrabel what he’s been able to accomplish and what he’s still capable of. Rivers spread the ball to eight different receivers and took care of the football against a stout Titans defense.

And when Rivers was done doing the dirty work, the Colts turned to Jacoby Brissett, who Vrabel didn’t have an answer for him either! Seriously, how to do you allow that big of a hole when there’s an obvious QB switch that’s being made for this exact reason.

Also, how fitting is this? Rivers passed Dan Marino on the all-time NFL passing yards list while facing Vrabel’s defense. The karma from that trash talk really came full circle, didn’t it?
