Do the Colts have their franchise quarterback lined up after the 2020 season?

It’s now more obvious than ever that Philip Rivers will not be quarterbacking the Indianapolis Colts beyond this season. He’s been the sole reason for Indy’s two losses and has yet to be a force in any of their three wins — that’s been the defense.

And now, as crazy as it sounds, Dak Prescott’s season-ending injury may have opened the door for the Colts, who will be in the market for a franchise QB when 2020 comes to a close. As we know, Prescott is under the franchise tag with the Dallas Cowboys after the two sides failed to agree to a long-term deal this summer.

His injury, one can expect, could further complicate those negotiations and have the QB looking elsewhere if he’s not franchised by the Cowboys again in 2021. And one NFL executive doesn’t think Dak landing with the Colts is out of the question.

"“One NFC exec prioritizes two above all others: the Indianapolis Colts and Chicago Bears,” wrote ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.“The Colts are built to win now with a stout offensive line and a good defense. Rivers, who signed a one-year, $25 million deal with the Colts in March, has five interceptions in his first five games with Indianapolis, and 25 picks in his last 21 games overall. His lack of mobility could be an issue over 16 games. Rivers and backup Jacoby Brissett ($21.375 million cap hit) both come off the Colts’ books in 2021, freeing up nearly $50 million in cap space.”“‘[Prescott] could be even better in an offense where he’s not throwing the ball 58 times a game,’ said the NFC exec, referring to Prescott’s 58 passing attempts in a Week 4 loss to Cleveland, which led by 27 points in the third quarter. “He could really flourish there because of the balance they have.'”"

Give us a second to breathe, whew.

It’s unknown what Prescott would command in free agency after his devastating ankle injury, but it doesn’t really matter for the Colts because they’ll have over $70 million in cap space in 2021 with few impending free agents to take care of. If they get a discount, great. If they have to splurge, so be it. Getting someone like Prescott instantly makes this team a Super Bowl contender.

How do you feel about this, Colts fans?
