Quarterbacks: B-   “Room for dadgum improvement.”

“Philip’s work has become more complete and careful. His competitiveness is appreciated, although he talks too much in class and is a terrible tease.”

This could be a B+ except for the first game. I also thought his fourth game, against the Bears, was lackluster — and worrisome in the Red Zone (again). But hang in there:

This could be a C+, except that 1) Amongst QBs playing most of all four games, Rivers is fourth in the league in passing percentage*, and 2) With my own eyes, I have seen many balls dropped by, even bouncing off, receivers. So manage your expectations, fan. This receiving corps, albeit with two current injuries, are not currently elite.

Just Sayin’…
*Rivers is on track in 2020 to pass for 4,000 yards, and earn a QB rating of 97.3.

Andrew Luck averaged less yards than that over his career, and Andrew’s career QB rating was 89.6.

Prophecy:
We have finished the four “exhibition” games. Head Coach Frank Reich and team are making adjustments. The Colts’ new quarterback, and the whole offense, with WRs returning from injury will improve the team’s outlook over the next quarter. With their an iron-hooved defense, Colts will get to 6-2.

That won’t be all due to the D. Rivers has gone two games without a — (Jinx alert, don’t say it out loud!). He is also expertly managing the games, and recently throwing away balls and taking sacks when he might have closed his eyes and chucked it to the devil.

There is a reason why an old gunslinger got to grow old.
