The Jets are without a lot of starters heading into Week 3 against the Colts.

The Indianapolis Colts were seemingly heading into a “trap game” against the 0-2 New York Jets this week, but a lot has changed over the last few days.

Not only is Indy working with some serious momentum after dismantling the Minnesota Vikings in Week 2, but now they’re preparing for a second straight home game (with fans, by the way) against a Jets team decimated by injuries.

Just look at how many starters New York will be without come Sunday.

Star running back Le’Veon Bell is out. The entire receiving corps, including veterans Breshad Perriman and Jamison Crowder as well as rookie Denzel Mims, is out. Right tackle George Fant won’t be suiting up and there’s a good chance center Connor McGovern doesn’t either.

You don’t want to sit here and think you’ll get a free win — this is the NFL, after all — but you simply cannot tell us the Jets’ backups will be able to defeat a soundly prepared Frank Reich’s side. When you factor in how bad the Jets are/have been with their starters, a game against backups could get ugly for Adam Gase and Co., especially against a ferocious Colts team.

On top of that, rookie stud safety Ashtyn Davis is dealing with a groin injury, which could leave the Jets thin in an already awful secondary.

New York has allowed 58 points in their first two games in addition to surrendering a total of 763 yards — 280 of which have come on the ground. We’d venture to argue that the Colts’ offense is better than that of the Buffalo Bills and San Francisco 49ers, too.

If you thought Sam Darnold had nobody to throw to previously, he will quite literally have no one to target on Sunday, even with Colts CB Rock Ya-Sin out. This could be another favorable rebound game for Indy’s secondary, too, which bounced back against the Vikes after a bad showing against the Jaguars.

We’re not calling this a win quite yet, but if there was ever a tailor-made game to capitalize on, it’s this one against the Jets.
