The pandemic will obviously have the greatest impact on incoming draftees, who have already lost valuable time to get up to speed with the rest of their teammates. Learning a new playbook is hard enough, but to do so potentially without legitimate game action makes it all the more pressing.

We get that the preseason doesn’t feature the greatest level of competition, but it’s normally a hotbed for draft picks and undrafted rookies to prove themselves and really work out the kinks that come with mastering a new system. In the case of the Colts, who are also welcoming a new quarterback in Philip Rivers, 2020 second-round pick Michael Pittman unfortunately figures to be affected the most. The former USC wideout certainly has the talent to overcome everything that’s working against him, but don’t be surprised if he struggles out of the gate.

Colts fans should give him the benefit of the doubt for the first couple weeks of the regular season.
