3. The Colts will finish second in the conference and make the AFC Championship game

A large majority of people see the Chiefs and the Ravens as the two best teams in the AFC. That’s a completely true statement, but underestimating the Colts is the wrong move going into 2020. They’re clearly the next best team in the conference behind KC and Baltimore with the potential to leapfrog them if all goes perfectly with the team’s new additions.

It’s entirely possible that the Colts can finish 2nd in the AFC. The most common placement for Indianapolis is either 3rd or 4th, however, looking at the team’s immense improvements on both sides of the ball, they can make a run at any team in the league, including Baltimore and Kansas City.

Keep in mind, the team bested Kansas City in their Week 5 matchup last season, and with the Chiefs returning 20 of their 22 starters, they haven’t made any drastic improvements to their already great team. The Colts have and can make a run at them for the 2nd seed in the playoffs next year.

While the Chiefs’ offense is better, the real advantage is on defense (where it mattered last year, as well). With a much improved secondary and another All-Pro in the front seven, Indianapolis has one of the scariest fronts in the league and will be the phase of the ball that pushes them past KC next year.

Next. Grading the Colts' 2020 offseason. dark

It’s entirely possible that, after beating out the Chiefs, that the Colts will make the AFC Championship game. It’ll be their toughest test getting through the defending Super Bowl Champions, but with the advantage on defense, there’s a large chance it’ll happen.
