Colts: Post Buckner trade Colts go wide receiver in second
By Daniel Davis
The Colts go wide receiver at this position and take LSU receiver, Justin Jefferson.
Personally, I like big body receivers and Jefferson is 6’3″ at 193 pounds. Jefferson is not only a big receiver but he catches over 90% of contested catches. He played his first two years he played on the outside and in 2019 he moved inside to the slot and had his best season yet. He caught 111 passes for 1,540 yards and 18 touchdowns with a quarterback rating when targeted at 128.6.
Jefferson excelled at the medium-range passes catching 31 of 40 passes and 7 touchdowns with a 92.9 receiving grade. Being he’s in the slot, most of his catches were less than 10 yards catching 49 of 53 catches. His one downfall is most of his catches were short, but the upside is they were contested since he was in press-man coverage most of the time in the slot, meaning he can catch basically anything thrown his way.
Pros:
- Attacks the ball at the high point rather than allowing it to come to him
- Breaks tackles in open space and is super shifty
- Great route runner
Cons:
- Bounces off routes against bigger safeties
- Mostly faced zone coverage
