The Colts need a second tight end now that they will be parting ways with Eric Ebron. Henry is a player who is intriguing that they might target in free agency.

Eric Ebron was a really good signing in 2018. He made the Pro Bowl and was an excellent red zone threat, catching 13 touchdowns. But as good as he was in 2018, he was that bad in 2019. He only caught 3 touchdowns in 11 games, and ended on bad terms with the team.

With Ebron moving on, the Colts are in need of another tight end. They could always draft one, but they might go back to the free agent market to get this hole filled. Hunter Henry would be a great low-risk high-reward option if they can get him on a friendly contract.

Henry will be hitting the free agent market after playing the first four years of his career in Los Angeles. So far he has caught 17 touchdowns in his four years, but he has really only played three because he tore his ACL in his third year and missed the entire season.

That injury history is the only thing that might scare Chris Ballard off. This team already has a bunch of guys that get injured, they don’t need to add another. But Henry’s great hands and big 6’5 250 pound frame is worth that risk. He catches 71.2% of passes thrown his way, which is a great catch percentage.

Giving Jacoby Brissett, or any rookie quarterback they might draft, a red zone threat like that is paramount to this team’s success next season and beyond. Jack Doyle is solid, but doesn’t get a lot of red zone targets. Henry would fill Ebron’s void seamlessly in that role.

As far as a contract goes, I could see them offering a 2-year $10 million deal. That is enough to keep Henry satisfied while also not breaking the bank. The Colts would still have plenty of cap space to do with as they please for other players they have their eye on.

Next. Trading up for Tua Tagovailoa would be smart for Colts. dark

It would be great to see them sign someone on Henry’s caliber. If he stays healthy, it would be a great free agency find.
