Clips To Watch

Let’s show a couple clips of K.J. Hamler that should excite Indianapolis Colts fans about the possibility of drafting him.

First, Colts fans, note where we are on the field. Hamler is lined up in the slot on 3rd and five, and immediately wins this rep with a crisp slant route. He wins against Shaun Wade, who was a projected top 40 pick until he decided to return to school.

As soon as he gets the ball, it’s over. Ohio State played cover 1 here, meaning it’s man coverage across the board with one safety deep. Hamler’s elite speed erases the safety’s angle and he’s off to the races for a 93 yard score.

This is another great rep from K.J. Hamler. He doesn’t tip his hand off the line of scrimmage, and snaps off a crisp speed out, creating a ton of separation. Once he’s got the ball, he uses a little hesitation to freeze the defensive back, and his short area burst takes care of the rest. He even makes a couple defenders miss in space for good measure.

Projection

If Hamler does indeed become a target for the Colts, it will be on day two of the draft with pick 34 of 44. As stated before, his speed, agility, refined route runner, and nightmarish ability in space should fit perfectly in Frank Reich’s offense. His ability to create separation quickly will work in Reich’s schemed, and teams will need to key in on him because of his speed, freeing up other pass catchers in the offense. Don’t forget about potentially getting him the football quickly either, whether it be on jet sweep/reverse motion, or on quick bubble screens. His skill set could bring big production to the Colts in 2020.
