Could the Colts trade their 1st round pick?
By Ryan Stano
This is something the Colts did a year ago to accumulate more picks. Could they do it again this year?
Last season, the Colts traded out of the first round to drop into the second round. They didn’t make a pick until the 34th overall, which they used on Rock Ya-Sin. They have the 13th pick in this year’s draft. Could they possibly do it again this year?
We all know that Chris Ballard likes to accumulate picks. He could do so again if he decides to move out of the 13th spot. They already have 9 picks in this year’s draft, including two second rounders. One of those second round picks is the 34th pick again.
I can’t say that I would be shocked if the Colts traded out of the first round, but it wouldn’t make much sense. With how badly they played in 2019, they need as much top-end talent as they can possibly get. They can get a pretty good player with the 13th pick.
That being said, I could see Ballard parting with that pick if a really good package was offered to him. I believe that he could trade the pick if he is offered another first rounder. I don’t see the Colts not picking in the first round of the NFL draft for two years in a row.
We won’t know if the Colts trade out of that spot for several more weeks. It honestly depends on who is left on the board at that 13th spot, and if they think they can get the guy they want at a later slot.
