Colts QB possibilities: Jake Fromm
By Ryan Stano
As far as realistic possibilities go, this is the last quarterback that the Colts could possibly draft. Would it make sense for them to take the man out of Georgia?
Jake Fromm has had an interesting career at Georgia. He took over for Jacob Eason after Eason got hurt early in his sophomore campaign. He took over as a freshman and never relinquished his starting spot, even after Justin Fields gave him a run for his money.
Even though he started for three years at Georgia, he never threw for more than 3,000 yards in a season. His biggest total was 2,860 yards this past season as a junior. While his yardage total was never impressive, his touchdown to interception ratio was great every year.
This past season, he threw for 24 touchdowns and just 5 interceptions. Fromm also completed 63% of his passes in his career. He showed the ability to make good decisions with the ball and not force the issue. But there are several drawbacks to his game.
First off, he doesn’t take too many big shots. He is ultra conservative with the ball. He isn’t a quarterback that can carry an offense to a win or have a big moment. His upside is limited in that regard, and that’s why he is slated to be a second or third round pick.
Fromm also only has average size and arm strength. He is 6’2 220, which is still fairly large. But his arm strength can be questioned sometimes. He may not be able to make every throw at the next level. That’s not something the Colts are looking to bring in.
Honestly, Fromm to me is just a younger Jacoby Brissett; ultra-conservative, takes care of the ball, but can’t win you a game. It would be shocking to see the Colts take a player who is so similar to one they already have.
