The draft is only a few months away, and the Colts might need a quarterback. If they decide that they do, the QB from Alabama might be a good fit.

Tua Tagovailoa was touted to be the number one quarterback in the draft before the 2019 season started. It was time for QB-needy teams to “tank for Tua”. But now it’s Joe Burrow and not Tua who will be the number one QB taken in the draft, and that helps the Colts.

Burrow having an all-time great season leaves several teams in contention for Tagovailoa’s services. The Colts could be one of those teams after Jacoby Brissett‘s unfortunate play down the stretch. The biggest question is, would the Colts take him if he’s available?

Tua put up insane numbers as a sophomore, throwing for almost 4,000 yards and 43 touchdowns to just 6 picks. But last year he was on pace to be even better, throwing 33 touchdowns to 3 picks. Then he got hurt in the Arkansas game and missed the rest of the year.

That injury is what complicates things for his draft status. He had a dislocated hip and that could be a serious injury. It’s the same type of injury that eventually took down the great Bo Jackson. There’s a chance he may never be the same again.

It’s also not his first injury. He has been hurt every year at Alabama and even into high school. Before the hip injury, he had surgery on a sprained ankle. He had the same procedure on the other ankle the year before as well after he got knocked out of the SEC Championship game.

Any team in position to draft him will have to way the injury history to his immense talent. There’s no doubt he can make all the throws at the NFL level. The Colts should be weary of any QB with injury history after dealing with Andrew Luck and his myriad of injuries.

Tagovailoa might also not be there for the Colts to take. There has been much speculation that Miami will take him with the 5th pick, so Indy might not even get a chance at him. Ultimately, there’s a high chance that Tua is playing somewhere else other than Indy next season.
