The Colts shouldn’t sign a free agent quarterback

We have been going through the possible candidates that the Colts could sign if they wanted to bring in a new starting quarterback. But the conclusion is simple: they should sign none of them.

The entire fan base is trying to figure out if the Colts need a new quarterback or not. Had Jacoby Brissett not played so poorly down the stretch, we wouldn’t even be having this discussion. But now they have to decide if they are going to sign another QB in free agency or not.

Based on all of the candidates that are coming up in free agency, none of them make sense for the Colts to sign. Free agency is not the answer for them to find their next franchise quarterback. Whether it be because of talent or money, none of the candidates are a fit for Indy.

Because of this, there is a really strong chance that Brissett is the starting quarterback for the team come 2020. They could still draft a QB, and we will go through those possibilities in the next few weeks, but it is very likely that Brissett starts the season as the starter.

This may not be all bad. Brissett had to play most of last season with his playmakers injured. T.Y. Hilton, Marlon Mack, and Parris Campbell all missed significant time. He never had a chance to build enough chemistry with his pass-catchers to help the offense.

They should all be healthy for 2020 and should all play better because of it. Having most of his guys healthy should make a big difference in the quality of his play. Brissett should be much better and could even lead the team to the playoffs.

That being said, if he doesn’t it will be his last season as the Colts’ starter. 2020 will be his last chance to show Chris Ballard and Frank Reich that he is capable of being a starting QB in this league. Then they will no doubt need a brand new QB.
