Despite the fact that they had a terrible second half of the season, the Colts’ don’t need to overhaul their roster to contend next season.

The Colts had a really bad season in 2019 based on what the expectations were before the year started. They finished 7-9 after they started 5-2 and looked lost the second half of the year. Despite that, they should still feel like they are close to contending.

One of the biggest reasons they should feel that way is because of the amount of injuries they sustained this year. Their offense never had a chance to operate at full capacity. T.Y. Hilton, Marlon Mack, Devin Funchess, and Parris Campbell all missed significant chunks of the season.

It’s highly unlikely that the Colts will suffer such a rash of injuries next season. It would be extremely unlucky if they did. It’s much more likely that their offensive players stay healthier and are able to contribute at a high level next year.

Another reason they don’t need a roster overhaul is the fact that they are an extremely young team. Most of their players are still a few years away from their prime. That means this team should grow into the best version of themselves the next few seasons, including next year.

The defense was a concern last year, especially in the last month of the year. That defense can use a little bit of an improvement in terms of personnel. But it doesn’t need to be an overhaul. A few tweaks just need to be made to put them in a better position to succeed.

Expect this team to be better next season and win more games. A lot doesn’t need to be changed for this team to be in the playoffs next year.
