Colts dominate Panthers in home finale
By Ryan Stano
In the last home game of 2019, the Colts finally put together a complete effort in a dominating victory.
It’s been a disappointing season for the Colts. Injuries killed any opportunity the team had to do any damage late in the year. But today they finally put together a full team effort to destroy the Carolina Panthers.
It was the Nyheim Hines show as the Colts won 38-6. Hines had 3 punt returns for a total of 195 yards and returned two of them for touchdowns. It’s the best effort from a return man in franchise history.
The Colts added 218 yards of rushing to control the game from the onset. Marlon Mack had 95 yards and a touchdown, while Jordan Wilkins added 84 yards and a touchdown on just 9 carries. The offensive line finally controlled the line of scrimmage after getting bullied the last two weeks.
The defense played their best game in a month. They were facing a rookie quarterback in Will Grier who looked overmatched. He threw 3 picks, with two of them going to Pierre Desir. It was a big day for the secondary after having gotten torched the last two weeks.
Special teams were the big story in this game though. Hines solidified his role as the punt returner of the future with his absurd performance today. If he hadn’t had fumble issues early in his career, he would’ve had this role all season long.
It was a great performance, but also frustrating. It was frustrating because Jacoby Brissett still wasn’t very good, and because this team couldn’t have this type of performance when it mattered earlier in the year.
There’s one more game left for the Colts this season. They will try to end on a high note with a win.
