The Colts Will Continue to Climb The Mountain
By FS Staff
This season certainly did not go how most hoped it would, but with two games left, there is a great opportunity to build momentum heading into the offseason, and gaining some confidence back.
When the Colts suffered a heartbreaking loss against the Titans, one that will be remembered by an Adam Vinatieri blocked field goal returned for a touchdown, it was a very difficult pill to swallow. While some were still optimistic that this team could turn it around, the odds were against them.
After the game, Frank Reich spoke to his 1-0 mantra, acknowledging that his team needed to respond with some passion, and make sure the mantra was more than just words. But, as we have seen these past two weeks, no matter how the team is preparing, they just aren’t getting the results on the field.
Last season, after the 1-5 start, the Colts rode that mantra all the way to the playoffs, and received praise on how the team was able to fight passed the adversity. This season, however, has been the total opposite, as fans have criticized the lack of ability of this team to battle through the adversity.
More specifically, questions about Jacoby Brissett have arose, asking whether or not he is the quarterback of the future. And to be fair, he has indeed shown some extreme inconsistencies. After a game in Tampa that some could consider his best game of the season, he follows it up in New Orleans with a couple misses that were just overall disappointing.

But again, heading into that game the team was without Eric Ebron, Devin Funchess, Parris Campbell, and Chester Rogers. It is interesting to look back at the beginning of the year, and remember how excited everyone was about this receiving corp, but truth be told, we never really had a chance to see what this team could be like with that whole group present.
Yet while the Monday night loss to the Saints was one that will frustrate almost all Colts supporters, the bigger importance within the game was T.Y. Hilton deciding to play. Most players of his caliber would pack it in on a season like this, and decide that the risk is not worth the reward. But that’s not what Hilton is all about.
Frank Reich and Chris Ballard are building a culture in Indianapolis, and it starts with players like Hilton. When Reich talks about climbing the mountain, I think a lot of us believe that the mountain starts at the beginning of the season, and ends when the season is finished. But the climb will not reset after the Colts play their final game in Jacksonville on December 29th.
Everything that has happened this season is what will make the Colts that much stronger in 2020, and Hilton is a prime example of it. He has bought into, and is representing what this Colts team is all about, and that is a team that takes it game by game, and tries to go 1-0. Of course it has been frustrating to watch this past 4 game losing streak transpire, but it is again crucial to keep the larger picture in mind. The Colts organization is building a team that is not only a talented group, but one that is going to give all they have for each other, each and every game.
So as the Colts get set to play Carolina in the last home game of the season, it is another opportunity for the Colts to go 1-0. No matter what has happened in the past, or what adversity they have had to face, this team will just be focused on playing the best they can against the Panthers. And, in the process, will continue to climb the mountain.
