The Colts kicker made all of his kicks on Sunday against the Jaguars and assured his place on the roster for at least another week.

The struggles of Adam Vinatieri have been well documented. He has missed 11 kicks so far this season and has cost the team a couple of games this season. Frankly, he should have been released by now. But he was able to save his job at least another week with his performance yesterday.

Vinatieri went 5/5 on his kicks on Sunday. He made his only field goal attempt from 34 yards and made all four of his extra points. Going perfect against the Jags after missing an extra point last week against the Dolphins kept his roster spot alive.

This late in the season, it seems unlikely that the Colts would change kickers no matter how badly Vinatieri performs the rest of the season. It’s already the second half of the year, and changing kickers now would interrupt the flow of the entire kicking operation too much.

That doesn’t mean that the Colts won’t make a change at that position in the offseason. But right now, Vinny is their man and they’re sticking with him. Colts fans are stuck holding their breath every time he lines up for a field goal or extra point.

If the Colts play like they did yesterday, it won’t matter who they have at kicker. They will be so far ahead that one missed kick won’t matter. They need to take the momentum they gained from yesterday’s victory and ride into Thursday night’s showdown in Houston.
