Indianapolis Colts Week 7: Three matchups to watch against Texans
By Daniel Davis
The Colts are heading to Houston, Texas, to take on the divisional rivals for control of the AFC South this week.
The Colts are coming off a historic win beating the Chiefs and holding them to only 13 points in doing so. In the game, the Colts’ Marlon Mack and running back crew deserved the MVP of the game as they kept the 2018 NFL MVP, Patrick Mahomes, off the field. Defense, a power-run offense, and a gutsy coach kept the Colts in the game and eventually won.
Even as great as that win felt, this week the Colts take on the Texans who have a much tougher defense than the Chiefs do. In fact, two of their defenders make the top 10 of the list for interior defensive lineman according to Pro Football Focus: D.J Reader and Charles Omenihu.
Zach Cunningham is also rated in the top 20 of linebackers with an 82% run-stopping efficiency. Cunningham is a second-year pro with 31 tackles on the season while only missing 5. However, he has played on over 200 coverage snaps and while his run defense is stellar, the opposing quarterbacks’ passer rating passing his way is over 100.0.
Benardrick McKinney is another player to watch out for in the running game. He runs a 4.6 40-yard dash with 32 tackles on the season while only missing 3. Out of 350 snaps he’s played, 187 have been in pass coverage with an opposing quarterback rating of over 120.0.
With all this being said, here are 3 matchups to look out for this week against the Houston Texans.
