Even though these aren’t the first five starts Brissett has made for the Colts in his career, they are the first five he has made while being the face of the franchise. Here is how he did in those five games.

Jacoby Brissett was thrown into an incredibly unique situation. He had to take over the Colts a couple of weeks before the season started, and was immediately the new face of the franchise. While he did have starting experience from 2017, he hadn’t played with this new group of players.

The consensus was that he would play better than he did in 2017 because the surrounding cast was better. That so far has proven correct. He has mostly been solid through the first five games this season. The biggest reason for that is he had all the first-team reps in training camp.

Brissett took all of the first-team reps in training camp because Andrew Luck was nursing his calf injury. It ended up being a blessing in disguise once Luck decided to retire. Because of getting all of those reps, Brissett was able to step right in without missing a beat.

While he hasn’t been a world-beater thus far, he has done what the team has needed in order to win games. We will break down his performance in every one of the five games he’s played so far this season, and assess his performance.

In the opener, he faced a Chargers team that had made the playoffs the year before. He almost led the team to a victory too.
