The Colts have had up and down performances this season, and that inconsistency muddies how good this team could be down the stretch.
Every team is searching for consistency. Every team is trying to get themselves to play the absolute best that they can. Unfortunately, the Colts haven’t been able to do that as much as they would have liked to do, and now it’s hard to get a read on how good this team is.
The Colts have been playing some really good games, like the one in Kansas City, and some bad ones, like the one home against Oakland. Because of that, it’s hard to gauge just how good this team could be and see if they can play well enough to make the playoffs.
A large reason for that have been injuries. Injuries have killed the Colts early this season. They have been without a multitude of players on defense and playmakers on offense. T.Y. Hilton has missed a game, Marlon Mack has been knocked up, and Darius Leonard has missed three games.
Now that they are going into their bye week, they can get a little more healthy. Leonard has already been cleared from his concussion protocol. Hilton should be fully good to go, and so should Clayton Geathers and Mack. That’ll help the consistency as well.
It’s six weeks into the season, and it’s still hard to see how good this team truly is. We will learn more coming out of the bye once the team is more healthy. But consistent play is what’s needed, and if it occurs, this team can be as good as any.
