Despite upset victory, Colts still not getting love
By Ryan Stano
Despite the fact that the Colts beat what many think is the best team in the league, they haven’t received much credit for doing so.
Beating the Chiefs in Arrowhead Stadium is not easy to do. The Colts failed to do so last year in the playoffs. But they were able to get revenge and take them down on a national stage on Sunday night. Yet despite this, they haven’t received credit for doing so.
Much of the talk over the last couple of days has been revolved around the Chiefs. “What’s wrong with Kansas City? Have teams figured out the blueprint to beat the Chiefs?” These are things that have been talked about within the national media, without mention of the team who beat them.
“Kansas City was too injured. They had no chance to win with so many offensive players hurt. Even Mahomes was hurt by the end, of course they were set up to lose.” This is also a narrative that has been floating around. Multiple national media members have used this excuse too.
But let me be clear; Kansas City gets no such excuses. They weren’t even the most injured team on the field that night. The Colts were missing four defensive starters, including both safeties, and had to play three rookies on that side of the ball.
They were also missing two wide receivers, and had another wide receiver who was a game-time decision who almost didn’t play. Every team in the league has injuries, and the Colts were the team who were able to overcome them to win the game.
The fact that no one is giving the Colts credit for actually winning the game is deplorable. People need to be smarter and realize that maybe another team was just better than the Chiefs that night. The Colts were that team, and might be that team down the road too.
