The Colts are second in the league in rushing after two weeks, while they are 32nd in passing. Quite a turn around from their past few years.

Frank Reich said he wanted to have a top-five rushing attack this season. He wanted the team to commit to the run even before the abrupt retirement of Andrew Luck. But now, it is truly the key part of the offense and the focal point of this team moving the ball.

The Colts are second in the league in rushing right now. Because of that, the Colts have been able to control the tempo of the game. They have a lot of time of possession, and that helps their defense. The defense has responded in a big way.

Marlon Mack was really good in the opener, but just okay in week two. They need to make sure that he is good in every game they play, not just every once and awhile. Jordan Wilkins had a big game, which was helpful. But they need Mack to be good every week.

Being a run-first team now also changes how teams will play the Colts. They will need to adjust to teams loading up the box against them. That should lead to more opportunities for Jacoby Brissett and the receivers to take deep shots down the field.

The Colts need to sustain the success they’ve had running the ball. They also need to stay committed to the run even when it doesn’t work initially. The second half is when they have worn down defenses and ran it well.

They shouldn’t have too many issues running the ball against the Falcons this week. Hopefully they can parlay that into another win in their home opener.
