The Colts finally got to play some football tonight, but it looked like their players were still back in Grand Park. They lost to the Bills 24-16.

Preseason football isn’t the best football to watch. It’s just for players to get back in the groove of hitting other players and getting back into a game flow. That is especially true for the first preseason game. The Colts clearly were not ready to start this game.

The Colts only scored 3 points at halftime, and that was because of a field goal at the end of the half by Cole Hedlund, who went 3-3 on field goals tonight and looked really good. But the first team offense did not look good while they were out there.

Granted Andrew Luck didn’t play tonight, so they weren’t at full capacity. But Jacoby Brissett did not look sharp. He only completed 2/5 passes for 21 yards, and 17 of those were on one throw to Devin Funchess. Maybe the most concerning part of their game was the lack of a running game.

Marlon Mack was held out of today’s game as well, so that left Nyheim Hines as the starter. He ran 6 times and amassed one single yard. That is concerning because most of the starting offensive line was out there except for Ryan Kelly.

We shouldn’t overreact to the very first preseason game. There were some positives from it as well. Carroll Phillips had a good game, recording a sack and a fumble recovery. Chad Kelly showed some zip with his arm and ran the option read nicely a few times as well.

This is just the first preseason game, so the team will look more sharp later in the year. But this wasn’t a great showing overall for the Horseshoe.
