Training camp is inching closer to starting every single day. One player who was a part of last year’s great draft class won’t be a part of it to start.

The Colts announced that they placed Daurice Fountain on the Non-Football Injury list to start training camp. The former fifth round pick from Northern Iowa won’t be participating in training camp as things start up. This is not great for a man on the bubble.

Fountain played very little last season. When he was given opportunities, he failed to use them well. He was inactive for most of 2018. He has a good chance of getting cut this season because of how little he has progressed. Fountain just hasn’t improved.

Improvement is going to be the only way he makes this team now that the receiver room is much more competitive. He has to fight players like Marcus Johnson and Deon Cain and Zach Pascal for a roster spot, and all of those guys are ahead of him on the depth chart.

This might spell the end for Fountain. There has been no official word on what Fountain might be dealing with that is keeping him out of camp, but it might not matter. He could be on his way out once first cuts are announced. He was only a fifth round pick so cutting him wouldn’t hurt too badly.

Fountain might be the only bad player taken in last year’s draft, as everyone else has contributed to the team, or in Cain’s case, will contribute this year. That’s a pretty good hit rate for an NFL draft.
