Colts defense shouldn’t have to carry team again

Last season was an anomaly in the fact that the Colts’ defense was actually better than their offense for most of the year. That won’t be the case this season.

The Colts’ defense kept them in a lot of games last season, especially early in the year. The offense put the defense in a lot of bad spots early in the year, and the defense was able to play fairly well. They continued that play throughout the later part of the season.

This season though, the defense shouldn’t have to work nearly as hard. They have a much better offense and they have a healthy quarterback. Having Andrew Luck healthy and not rusty to start off the year will be huge for the early part of the season where the toughest part of the schedule is.

Adding new weapons to the offense helps balance this team out. Not that the defense will be any worse than last season. In fact, they should be better this season now that they are in the second year of their new 4-3 scheme. It wouldn’t be surprising to see them be a top 5 defense.

Having that lethal combination of a dangerous offense and a stingy defense is why so many people think so highly of this Colts team. They can make some serious noise if they are able to put it all together. Everything points to them being able to do just that.

It will be interesting to see if their best is good enough though. There are still some great other teams in the AFC. The Colts will need to play their best if they want to beat those teams to get to the Super Bowl.
