The Colts worked out the former foe on Tuesday, but now he is working out for another team because he left indy without a deal.

Johnathan Cyprien‘s workout clearly didn’t impress the front office enough. The Colts worked the safety out earlier this week, but he left without a contract. Now he is working out with other teams in hopes of earning a contract from them.

This doesn’t necessarily mean he won’t get signed by Indianapolis. He might just want to look at his options and see what else he has available to him. But if he had impressed enough, one would think he would have received an offer from the Colts that day.

Cyprien would have brought some additional competition to the strong safety position. He would have fought Clayton Geathers for the starting spot, and would have provided more depth. Having Geathers, Cyprien and Khari Willis would have been nice for depth purposes.

They still can sign him, but now they won’t get first priority. As he works out for other teams, there’s a bigger likelihood he signs with someone else. But that might not be a bad thing. Clearly the Colts weren’t impressed. They have earned some trust when it comes to talent evaluation.

dark. Next. How does the Colts' receiving corp rank in the league?

It remains to be seen if the Colts are actively looking at adding more depth in the secondary beyond this one workout. My guess is yes, but there aren’t that many good options out there. It will be interesting to see if they host any other workouts in the near future.
