The Colts have announced that yet another player has signed a tender to return to the team in 2019.

Evan Boehm has signed his tender to return to the Colts for 2019. He was a restricted free agent after the Colts had picked him up off the Rams’ practice squad early in the 2018 season. He ended up playing in 11 games for the Colts, including four starts.

Keeping Boehm just increases the depth that the Colts have along the offensive line. They are trying to build depth there because they always seem to suffer injuries with that unit. Keeping Boehm not only increased the depth, but keeps some sort of continuity with the backups.

The offensive line might be the strongest unit of the Colts’ team. They have five great starters who have proven their worth together. But inevitably, as we saw last season, injuries happen. That’s how Mark Glowinski was able to get the starting spot at right guard and Braden Smith at right tackle.

Those injuries thrust Boehm into duty, and he even had to start a few games at center after Ryan Kelly was hurt. To have a guy that can play multiple positions along the offensive line as a backup is invaluable to have on the team. Boehm is one of those guys.

Hopefully, the Colts won’t need him as much as they did last season. But if they do, they can take solace in the fact that he performed admirably when he was called upon. That, and he knows the offense really well.
