The Colts announced that they re-signed the backup tackle to increase their depth along the offensive line.

J’Marcus Webb is coming back to Indianapolis. The Colts announced that they had brought back the backup tackle. Webb had signed a one-year deal last offseason to join the Colts, and even started week 1 while Anthony Castonzo was injured.

Unfortunately for Webb, he suffered a season ending injury in that week 1 game. Webb has mostly been a backup in his career that has spanned 8 seasons. He hasn’t shown the ability to be a starter, but has shown the ability to be a pretty decent backup.

Signing Webb gives the Colts more depth at the tackle position, a place where they haven’t had a bunch of depth in the past. But bringing Webb back gives them a quality option at tackle if they have to use him. Hopefully, they won’t but it’s a good insurance policy to have.

Webb should be fully healthy for next season, and that’s a good thing for the Colts. They need as many players as possible ready for the start of next season. In 2018, that was not the case and it killed their start, as they only were able to muster a 1-5 record in their first 6 games.

Depth along the offensive line is something that Chris Ballard has wanted to build with this squad. He has been working hard to do so. Re-signing a quality backup like Webb is just another step in that process of building depth in every position on the team.
