According to NFL.com, the Colts had the best rookie class in the entire league in 2018. But that isn’t news to anyone who has been following this team.

The Colts had one of the best draft classes in franchise history in 2018. They had two rookies named as a first-team All-Pro. Not only that, but they had several great contributors who were rookies, and now the national media is picking up on it.

NFL.com graded all of the rookie classes from this past year and graded the Colts as the best class of them all. This isn’t surprising to anyone who has followed this team closely. They have been doing a good job integrating the rookies into the gameplay immediately.

Quenton Nelson and Darius Leonard were the headliners of the class, but there were other starters who were drafted too. Braden Smith is the new right tackle of the future, and could play guard as well. Tyquan Lewis was a starter at defensive end too, when he was healthy.

Nyheim Hines and Jordan Wilkins were good additions at running back as well. Hines has emerged as a good receiver out of the backfield, and Wilkins can get some tough yardage. Even seventh rounders Matthew Adams and Zaire Franklin were contributors.

Not every single draft or rookie class is going to be like this, but it doesn’t hurt for Colts fans to know that Ballard has the evaluation talent of a great GM. The Colts will continue to get contributions from these guys for years though.
