Colts part ways with Dave DeGuglielmo
By Ryan Stano
Now that it is the offseason, there will be changes to the coaching staff and the roster for every team. But the Colts did make a surprising move today.
The Colts announced today that they have parted ways with offensive line coach Dave DeGuglielmo. That was announced earlier today. It is somewhat of a surprising move since the offensive line was one of the stronger units in all of football this season.
DeGuglielmo wasn’t a hire by Frank Reich when he came in. He was one of the assistants that was hired by Josh McDaniels when McDaniels was supposed to be the head coach. He was one of the few assistants that had been hired and whose contract was honored by the team.
This is somewhat of a surprising move. The offensive line was one of the most improved units on any team in the the NFL. To not want to bring the guy who coached that unit back is a little odd. But Reich clearly has someone that he wants to bring in himself.
It is unclear right now who that person would be. Reich has plenty of time to look over his options and decide on the right man for the job. But of all the assistants who could leave, DeGuglielmo was not someone who was expected to be relieved of his duties.
It will be interesting to see in the next few days what the Colts decide to do to fill this opening. We will keep you posted on any other moves that the Colts make with their coaching staff.
