Colts vs. Texans week 14: Defensive post-game grades
By Ryan Stano
The Colts beat the Texans today, but it was on the strength of their defense. The defense was able to keep it close early. Here is how each unit played.
The Colts won a very critical game today in Houston, beating the Texans 24-21. But it was the defense who stepped up early for Indy. They held Houston in check while their offense was finding their rhythm. Here is how each of the units played today.
This might have been the best game the defensive line has played. They were monsters in the run game, only allowing 50 yards on 20 carries from the running backs. They also pushed the pocket around on Deshuan Watson and made him move around. Denico Autry was an absolute beast, and Margus Hunt had a sack too. Great performance by this unit.
Darius Leonard once again led the team in tackles with 12, also recording a sack. Anthony Walker was second in tackles with 11. The entire unit did a great job not allowing the running backs to get into the second level as well. They did a pretty good job in coverage as well. Solid showing once again for the linebackers.
The secondary only allowed one touchdown through the air. They were locked on the Houston receivers pretty well all game. They did allow a couple of big plays, but they were pretty locked in. Kenny Moore also got some useful pressure on the quarterback on a couple of corner blitzes.
This win was an entire team effort, but the defense kept them in it early. They have been much improved this year. If they continue to play this way, the Colts might just sneak into the playoffs.
