The Colts and the Jaguars played an ugly game today in Jacksonville. Neither offense was very good, but one of them made just enough plays to win the game. Jacksonville eeked one out 6-0.
Frank Reich is going to be disappointed in this one. Quite frankly, he should be disappointed in his own effort. Riech’s play calling was terrible all game long. He went for it on fourth down on three separate occasions, and didn’t convert on any of them. And the plays they ran on those fourth downs were awful.
Ultimately, the Colts offense was bad for the entire game. They were smothered by Jacksonville’s defense. They refused to run the ball on first down for most of the game, so they were fairly predictable in their play calling. That was the main reason for this awful game.
The offense was shutout for the first time in Andrew Luck‘s career. They had no rhythm at all and couldn’t get any momentum. It was the worst offensive output this team has ever had under Luck, and it was frustrating and disgusting to watch.
The Colts defense actually played pretty well. They held Jacksonville to just 6 points and forced a turnover. They didn’t allow Cody Kessler to move the ball super well. But the over-riding reason why the Colts lost this game is the offense and the horrible play calling.
Another point to bring up are the referees. The entire crew did a horrible job officiating today’s game for both teams. The game ended when the referee botched a call, saying Eric Ebron landed in bounds when his entire body was out of bounds. But that isn’t the reason Indy lost.
Reich needs to look at himself in the mirror and fix things this week. This loss could have cost the Colts a playoff spot. They need to win the rest of their games if they want a chance to dance in the post-season.
