The NFL is the No Fun League. Another reason for that was added today after the NFL leveled a ridiculous fine on a Colts rookie.

Quenton Nelson’s pockets are $26,000 lighter today. The NFL announced that it fined him for a block that went viral. They saw the block on Twitter, and fined him for leading with his helmet on the block. Now the rookie has his first NFL fine.

This fine is ridiculous for a number of reasons. First off, he doesn’t lead with his helmet. He executes a textbook block and destroys the defender. He didn’t try to spear him or anything. Nelson just went out and made a hell of a block.

Secondly, the NFL didn’t even know about it until the Colts posted it on Twitter with a fake scream added to it. They weren’t going to fine him at all until that video started to circulate. Because of that, it is really the team’s social media team who should pay the fine.

This is just another example of the NFL being a stick in the mud. They can’t allow us to have nice things. They preach safety of the game, but when there is actually a dangerous hit that could hurt someone, there is no flag thrown. It’s hypocrisy at it’s finest.

Nelson will undoubtedly have someone offer to pay his fine. He shouldn’t have to pay for being a good football player. Quite frankly, it was dumb to add the scream anyway. Below is the video in question.

I had to get that from Yahoo Sports because the NFL even made the Colts take down the video from Twitter. What a ridiculous situation.

Hopefully, this is Nelson’s last fine he has to pay in his career. And hopefully the NFL learns some common sense.
